Belkin has announced that they are getting into the place shifting market with their new @TV Plus device (model # G1V1000). Just like the Slingbox and Monsoon’s Vulkano the new @TV Plus will let you watch live and recorded TV anywhere your tablet, smartphone or laptop can access Wi-Fi, 3G or 4G.

They are also saying, unlike the Slingbox, the new @TV Plus will record directly on mobile devices. How that is going to specifically work we have not heard.

It is also coming with a Wi-Fi connection so that, unlike the Slingbox, you do not have to wire the box directly to your router or bridge.

The new @TV Plus will also allow up to 8 simultaneous streams (viewers) when using your in home network and one device when away from home. The Slingbox only allows one viewer at a time.

It also has lot’s of ways to connect up your set top box.

I belive Belkin have signed up to sell the new VULKANO HD under their own name.

  2.

Its always good to have a competition. This is one way to improve the products of the major players. This means that placeshifting is not over yet and there are still room for improvement. Looking at the Belkin website, they don’t seem to reveal much of the features. Hope they have fresh ideas that will be adapted.

Would like to know what they mean with 1080i resolution. It will be 1920x1080i? That would be great.

When is slingbox launching a new device.Slingbox Pro-HD is getting old

  4.

The 1080i is what is will output to your TV if using the pass through.  It isn’t what resolution the remote stream would be.

  5.

Too bad… What is the point in releasing another SD quality device?

  6.

It seems that they are more interested in going after the mobile place shifting market than the PC user.

With a mobile device, in most cases, you don’t need a full HD stream.

If this is the new Vulkano HD under another name the resolution they offer now is pretty good in most cases.

Monsoon have advised me the new HD box is for remote streaming at 1080I  So lets wait and see.

But for those who really want to complain that their aren’t enough devices on the market for streaming then you are mistaken.  You can simulcast multiple HD streams on JW Player HTML5 platform using Blade servers and some Osprey capture cards.  Or you could have one PC as a server you’d need a minimum 6 core I7 3930 CPU or faster with Win 7 64 bit and 4gb of ram to stream 2 SD channels at 5mb each. The faster the bitrate the more powerful an encoder you will need. You can get cards with a single or multplie source input in SD or HD.

Or you can get some nice Qvidium HD encoders and run in HD as well at 20 – 30mb streaming.

When can we expect this new Vulkano HD? I’m interest in knowing what Echostar is doing. They should present a new slingbox with wireless, 1080i for remote viewing, recorder and possibility of having more viewers

  9.

According to Belkin Mobile TV PC Player – http://www.myvulkano.com/belkin_support.html – 720×480 is the maximum available quality.

I agree. I am sure there will be some reviews and more info coming along soon.

In the mean time. What do you think of the size of the box itself? I kinda like it over the long/skinny Vulkano box.

Hard to say. That could be some kind of test player program and when the box is released there may be something new.

Going to be fun finding out anyways. smile

I’ve got an information form Belkin, that @TV Plus will stream only SD resolution video. HD device is going to be released next year.

  13.

    buuuuuuuhhhh :P

  14.

According to Belkin’s @TV software for Windows, the maximum streaming resolution is, unfortunately, 720×480, as shown in my screenshot: http://img256.imageshack.us/img256/1795/65371022.png

The maximum bitrate also seems to be 2500 Kbps, as opposed to the Slingbox PRO-HD’s 8000~ Kbps.

Is it THAT hard for someone to release a 1080i or even a 720p video streamer?

  15.

Belkin @TV Plus new integration! Its all A/V Outputs and A/V Inputs components are promoted and upgraded now though I think now it will be appreciated by all. Thanks!Mark

I see it is now shipping from Amazon.com and a few people have started receiving them. There should be some reviews coming out soon.

I don’t have one, but once I saw the pictures of the unit I instantly new it was a Vulkano product as I had seen the old FCC images of the Vulkano v3 product:

    http://www.ipodnn.com/articles/11/09/09/3rd.gen.monsoon.vulkano.h…..ow.at.fcc/

So it is cool to know the v3 product wasn’t some pipe dream and has actually made it to the market.

What is interesting is that the pictures in this article show it as a the Vulkano Flow, but it includes a HDMI port. So that would make the Belkin @TV Plus a stripped-down version of the Flow (?!?!?) since it lacks an HDMI port.

I have a Vulkano v1 (Pro), and certainly do enjoy it, but am not too hot on the SD resolution (720×480). All the reviews seem to indicate that the @TV does the same junk resolution.

Unfortunately, most reviewers on the internet seem to be treating this as some brand new product, as opposed to what it really is: just a rebranded Vulkano product in a new chassis, which for me is not exciting in the least.

It really bothers me that each new version of the Vulkano seems to bring no new features, or removes features.

V2 (from V1) made the mobile app $12.99 (it was originally free with v1), removed access to the SATA port, removed access to the USB port, removed access to the picture-card port, created a new tier without HDMI port (the Flow).

V3 seems to change nothing from V2 other than putting everything into a new, better looking chassis.

  19.

I don’t know if they mixed up the pictures of a V3 Flow with a V3 Blast. Hard to tell.

Belkin has done a lot of work on the player programs and guides so even if the hardware doesn’t do more maybe the software will work better.

  20.

I have both Flow and Lava which I really like and impress with the picture quality, I am kind of disappointed with this release Belkin @TV or V3 as another name of Vulkano.
I wish Vulkano considered adding HD option, even if not HD, they would consider adding a tuner, more inputs so that users can connect multiple devices to it.

  21.

I too would have welcomed a second set of component inputs, although, I’m not surprised that an ATSC tuner isn’t part of the package.  As you can imagine, it keeps the cost down.  Secondly, ATSC is not a global standard, so it won’t benefit those using it outside of N. America, some parts of Central America and S. Korea.

  22.

Any idea why a large heat-sink was placed over the media processor of the Blast3 and Lava3 but not the Flow3 and Stream3? (FCC images)  The 1st gen line-up didn’t require a heat-sink.  Correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t think the Flow, Lava and Blast have one either.  The Blast3/Lava3 media processor must be generating more heat than that of its siblings, but why?  Could they be the HD remote streamers we’ve been waiting for? surprised

  23.

I don’t have a Belkin (Blast 3) to check so I don’t know if it actually ships with a heat-sink. That could have been added for testing or just as a prototype. It is not unusual for the FCC pics to not match the final product when it comes to things like that.

If added that would be great. I am all for keeping things as cool as possible.

I believe it uses the same processor as the Vulkano units so I wouldn’t expect any higher resolutions. Although a reconfigured motherboard can help it be more efficient for doing other things so perhaps they took advantage of that.

  24.

    Thanks BC,

I thought, perhaps, the addition of a heat-sink might indicate a different processor.  What you said makes a lot of sense though.

Is the Belkin equivalent to the Blast3 even available yet?

  25.

The Belkin is available now from Amazon.com here. From what I can tell they are selling quite a few of them. Hopefully we will start seeing some user comments here on it soon.
