Belkin has announced that they are getting into the place shifting market with their new @TV Plus device (model # G1V1000). Just like the Slingbox and
Monsoon's Vulkano the new @TV Plus will let you watch live and recorded TV anywhere your tablet, smartphone or laptop can access Wi-Fi, 3G or 4G.
They are also saying, unlike the Slingbox, the new @TV Plus will record directly on mobile devices. How that is going to specifically work we have not heard.
It is also coming with a Wi-Fi connection so that, unlike the Slingbox, you do not have to wire the box directly to your router or bridge.
The new @TV Plus will also allow up to 8 simultaneous streams (viewers) when using your in home network and one device when away from home. The Slingbox only allows one viewer at a time.
It also has lot's of ways to connect up your set top box.

Component: 480i, 576i, 480p, 576p, 720p50/60, 1080i50/60 Analog Stereo

Its always good to have a competition. This is one way to improve the products of the major players. This means that placeshifting is not over yet and there are still room for improvement. Looking at the Belkin website, they don't seem to reveal much of the features. Hope they have fresh ideas that will be adapted.

Would like to know what they mean with 1080i resolution. It will be 1920x1080i? That would be great.
When is slingbox launching a new device.Slingbox Pro-HD is getting old

The 1080i is what is will output to your TV if using the pass through. It isn't what resolution the remote stream would be.

It seems that they are more interested in going after the mobile place shifting market than the PC user.
With a mobile device, in most cases, you don't need a full HD stream.
If this is the new Vulkano HD under another name the resolution they offer now is pretty good in most cases.

Monsoon have advised me the new HD box is for remote streaming at 1080I So lets wait and see.
But for those who really want to complain that their aren't enough devices on the market for streaming then you are mistaken. You can simulcast multiple HD streams on JW Player HTML5 platform using Blade servers and some Osprey capture cards. Or you could have one PC as a server you'd need a minimum 6 core I7 3930 CPU or faster with Win 7 64 bit and 4gb of ram to stream 2 SD channels at 5mb each. The faster the bitrate the more powerful an encoder you will need. You can get cards with a single or multplie source input in SD or HD.
Or you can get some nice Qvidium HD encoders and run in HD as well at 20 – 30mb streaming.

When can we expect this new Vulkano HD? I'm interest in knowing what Echostar is doing. They should present a new slingbox with wireless, 1080i for remote viewing, recorder and possibility of having more viewers

According to Belkin Mobile TV PC Player – http://www.myvulkano.com/belkin_support.html – 720x480 is the maximum available quality.

I agree. I am sure there will be some reviews and more info coming along soon.
In the mean time. What do you think of the size of the box itself? I kinda like it over the long/skinny Vulkano box.
