Well it had to happen someday and it looks like today is it. If you use the Slingplayer 2.0.x program or watch.slingbox.com you may not know it but you are relying on Sling Media's servers to connect to and watch your Slingbox. They have designed it this way to make it "easier" for you.
In most cases it works just fine but what happens when they have a server or connection issue? Well you may have found out today if you tried to login or watch your Slingbox.
While they won't officially say what is causing the problem they are recommending that you should revert back to an older Slingplayer version that does not require a connection to their servers.
Here is a copy of their post in their forums.
The problem with that information is that you can't just install Slingplayer 1.5 if you already have 2.0.x installed. You have to first uninstall 2.0.x then install 1.5.
Even after you do that you have to either be on your local network or have your Slingbox ID or remote information to connect.
All of this is way to confusing for the average user. If you are above average then check out this post. If not then you may just want to wait a day or so… until they have fixed things.
I am sure Sling Media is doing everything they can to get their servers or connection problems resolved but if you are new to Slingbox then you need to realize that connecting to your own SlingBox requires Sling Media to maintain the back-end service properly so you can enjoy your TV easily.

Complete Fail. I can only sit back and laugh.
Yeah but imagine being a hosting company like I am and not having a back up.
This has happened before with sling media and once it was over a very important weekend for sports.
NOthing better than your customers thinking it's your lousy service as they don't understand and don't want to know about sling being down.

Am I *#@%*"#$# at SlingMedia. I couldn't connect on my PC Wednesday and called Sling support. They charged me $30 to "fix" the problem. When I tried to connect again Wednesday night and Thursday same problem. Thursday I was able to connect after 15 minutes. They said the problem was my firewall when it is now appearant that the problem was theirs and they took my money.
When I couldn't connect Thursday then wanted another $30. I'm still having problems connecting. Are they going to refund monies taken from customers who couldn't connect the last few days? Do they even care?

I'm "tipping" this to as many tech blogs as I can.
Maybe the embarrasment will make Sling change the next versions of software..
Everyone should tip the sling forum post and the one here to them!
It would be very easy for them to create a backup way to watch your Slingbox if their servers or connection is down. For whatever reason they decided that they didn't want to give people an easy way to do so.
I don't know if it is because they are afraid that you may do that and then they lose the analytics data that the player sends in or if they had another reason.

It never occured to me that the $30.00 charge deal might rear it's ugly head in this issue. Thanks for bringing that up. If there is no refund you may have to contest the credit card billing.

It's been more than 3 days now. Is the Sling account server still dead? I can log into slingbox.com from Taiwan, but my father's Catcher still gets "No Slingbox available" at the remote location in California. When the Sling account server comes alive, does my father have to hard reset his Catcher, or is there an easier way? Thanks for your help.

I have called their tech support each night before they close at 7PM(?) for the night and although the stories have changed a little bit each night, the response is still the same: They are working on the problem and the problem is described as they are updating the servers or performing some kind of maintenance on them. Finally fed up of getting the "canned" answer, I demanded to speak to a supervisor. The supervisor of course gave me the same song and dance… No different info than I have been getting each of the 3 nights I have talked to them. I think someone seriously "screwed the pooch" on this one. How long does it take to fix a server?
