I have seen many posts related to pro-hd capacitor and power adapter failures.

I just purchased a refurbished unit from woot. Since I am installing this unit for someone else located far, i would like to make sure the unit doesn't fail at least for the same known issues.

Is there a way to tell like checking the capacitor models, or serial numbers so on?

Not really no. You could check the power supply and make sure it reads 5 volts but even then it could be weak and when under a load not put out enough.

The only thing you can do with the capacitors is take the box apart and look for bulging or leaking ones.

I don't know if you have a warranty but if you do taking that box apart probably voids it.
