Not sure if there would be much interest generally in this.  I have been chatting to Harry Muscle, the author of the Slingbox code in XBMC since it was developed about creating a standalone linux program which would be able to change channels and throw the stream to std_out.  The purpose behind this is to be able to then feed the input into something like VDR or mplayer in order to apply an epg and set up timed recordings.  However, Harry is now working full time and would only be able to do it if we could raise about $200-$300.

I envisaged it working for me in the following way:

Linux / VDR with IPTV plugin would call a script.

The script would start the splingbox program with a channel number and pipe the output to ffmpeg which sends an mpeg2 stream back into VDR.  I would use this to add UK TV to my US PVR..

Any other linuxy people out there?

Rob

Did you ever get anywhere with this? I am kinda curious since the Monsoon Vulkano will do recordings to either your PC or it's built in HD if there is still a demand for the Slingbox/Slingplayer to be able to record the stream.
