Hello,
I recently bought an HDS 600-RS which is now in the UK with myseld on the US west coast. It works perfectly on Slingplayer (old version) and via the Sling 'watch' webpage.
Because connecting my laptop to the TV is a pain I recently got a good deal on a Slingcatcher but can't seem to get past 'network error' on the screen, despite the fact the Catcher is connected to the internet and finds my Slinbox.
I did check on the Slingplayer and I seem to be viewing my content remotely using a Relay stream and I have read that I need to change this to TCP on my UK home router? Is this an easy process? I just enter the IP address of my Slingbox and the relevant port? (it's 5101 on the HDS-600RS). Then, manually set up the internet viewing again on the Slingbox site?
I just don't want to mess up the connection as watching on my computer is better than nothing at all!
Thanks!

It does sound like you need to setup the TCP port forward on your UK router.
If you have some way to log into the router remotely then just use your Slingbox port and 5001. Then run setup again.

I do have remote access to my router….
So…I go into my router settings, add the 'private IP' for my Slingbox then select port 5001? My Slingbox is currently operating through port 5101 and I did read somewhere that that's now standard for the HDS 600-RS. Should i still try 5001?
I've never done this before so am worried I'll mess it up!

You need to check and see if 5101 is even open. If not you can use 5101 or 5001 it shouldn't matter because you will be going into the Slingbox setup and choosing which port you set.
You can use our Slingbox open port check tool here to see if the port is open correctly.

Do I need to be on the home network for this test? I tried it remotely, entered the slipbox IP and port 5101 and it said it wasn't responding.
I guess this is my issue with Slingcatcher?
Going to try and reset the router using a remote program (logmein.com) on a computer linked to the home/Slingbox network later. I'm worried that if my router has to reset after the port forwarding is added I will lose my internet connection and it may mess things up?
Also, I just spoke to the UK technical team and a guy told me the HDS-600RS is NOT a compatible device with the Slingcatcher. Although he did say it MIGHT work…just may not be stable. Do you have any knowledge about this?
Thanks again!

If you enter the IP address (not the local one but the router's internet one) into the port test and then the port number the test will tell you if that port is open.
I haven't heard specifically that the SlingCatcher won't work with the HDS-600rs

Brandon…you are VERY helpful…thank you!
Do I need to set up a static IP address ahead of port forwarding on the home router?
As I've mentioned before I can watch my HDS 600RS on the website and older version of Slingplayer.
My issue now is that the router configuration page won't display properly so try to have the ISP rectify that! I'm guessing there's no point doing a manual set up on setup.slingbox.com until I can get into the router page?

Brandon- and how about setting up a static IP address? Is this the same thing or can I avoid this process? Excuse my ignorance with all of this!
When you go through the sling player setup you will specify the IP address. Once done it will always try and use that address. The only time you may have an issue is if some other device tries to take over the same address as the Sling box. I have mine use a higher address than most other devices will try to use and have not had an issue with that.

I am going to have to do the Slingplayer Setup remotely….sure this will be fine.
Nothing else is taking over that port (5101) so should be good.
Is it easy to select 'manual' set up rather than the automatic version?
I am desperate to get the Catcher working! Such a great idea!! Why does it not mention TCP in the catcher set up?

When the SlingCatcher came out you had to manually setup a port forward for the Slingplayer to work. So I guess they assume that you have already done so before hooking up the Catcher.
Now the Slingboxes don't necessarily need a manual port forward setup

Just to let you know that setting up port forwarding and TCP on my router cured the problem and it the Slingcatcher works like a dream!
It really is an incredibe bit of kit and I'm shocked they have discontinued it.
I used port 5101 (default on HDS 600RS) and input that into the router. I did not have to set up the Slingbox HDS 600RS again. It worked as per slingbox.com set up.
Thanks again for all of your guidance.
