What happens is that Sling has made it so if no remote works then it always defaults to the default.spr file.

So when you go to a different skin than the default one it has basically already memorized the default key commands and you can't overrule them.

In this case to override the default keyboard commands you need to take the default.XAP file and the default Properties file. Then change the shortcut commands like so.

<Shortcut cmd="id.remote.channel.up" keys="PageUp" />
 <Shortcut cmd="id.remote.channel.down" keys="PageDown" />

and

<Shortcut cmd="id.remote.page.up" keys="=" />
 <Shortcut cmd="id.remote.page.down" keys="-" />

In the Default's Remote.xml file. Once done you have to Zip it up and name it Default.spr and make it a read only file. and put it in the "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Sling Media\SlingPlayer\2.0\Remote" folder.

Then you have to override their defense systems.. :) and also put it in the "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Sling Media\SlingPlayer\2.0\Temp" folder as read only.

Once you do that both the default remote and Alan's custom remote will use the new keyboard commands.

A lot of work just to change 2 keyboard commands but I understand how they need to make sure at all costs the basic default remote works.

Back to Ronindave.

If you wish I can Zip up a default.spr file and you can put it into those two folders, make it read only and you should be good to go.

Btw, the path "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Sling Media\SlingPlayer\2.0" for XP is relative to "C:\ProgramData\Sling Media\SlingPlayer\2.0" on Vista and Windows 7.

so i need to modify the remote.xml file, save it, and also zip it up and rename to default.spr (and copy them to 2 locations as read-only).

what do i have to do with the default.xap (can't find this one) and the default properties file?

Cluck, you!!!

Laugh

OMG! So, funny.  Reminds me of the days, I used to grab atomic wings from Cluck U.  Butt, it burns so good.

Actually, you're good to go.  You don't do anything to the "xap" file.  That's our stupid geek talk for the zip file that you downloaded which has all the image files and xml files, including the "properties.xml" and "remote.xml" files we were talking about earlier.

Ronindave:  Actually, eferz's wrong this time Laugh   You haven't seen the XAP file for the default remote before, that is something we have been working on and is stored separately in the download section.

So go to the download section, look under "Slingplayer Remote Zip files" and download the first 2 files called PROPERTY.XML and DEFAULT  (originally incorrectly posted as REMOTE).   Now put the PROPERTY.XML file inside the DEFAULT.ZIP file.

Now follow Brandon's instructions, changing the <Shortcuts> in the REMOTE.XML file, renaming the ZIP file to DEFAULT.SPR, making it read only and dropping it in those 2 folders.

If it doesn't work for you, you can use mine, download from here.

Brandon:  Works fine for me, Page Up/Down changing channels although oddly +/- still change channels as well.  I'll see if I can figure out why.

So I guess the <Shortcuts> section in my REMOTE.XML file is redundant and can be removed ?

Similarly, I guess we could also strip out all the contents of my PROPERTIES.XML file, although I am inclined to leave them in as a handy reference document to the key names and codes.

I am not sure whether we include this procedure in the instructions or whether it is too complex for the average user.  It is a 'service' we could offer I suppose so just ask people to post a request for a shortcut change in the same way that post a request for a Custom Remote?

Thoughts ?

That's what I get for not following Alan's instructions. Embarassed

I renamed remote.zip to default.spr marked it as read-only and just dropped it into the remote directory.

Now that I actually follow instructions, I can have three remotes.  Yay!

I just realized, I don't even think I put it in the correct remote directory.  Now I gotta figure out which one of my 1.5 versions I fubared.  I think if I just delete all the default.spr files they'll just redownload, amirite?

Sheez, don't you guys ever sleep? I wake up and you have everything all sorted. Smile

My first thought is that this issue, using a tuner and needing to rearrange keyboard commands, is not going to come up very often, if ever again. So I wouldn't change anything just for this.

I am thinking maybe the way to go is to look how the TiVo or other remotes assign special keys like Thumbs up and overrides the default stuff first. Then see if something similar can be done with your remote.
