After updating my IPad to the latest and greatest, the remote provided is not the one for my device and does not offer all the buttons I had previously.  I tried to locate in setup my device or a remote close to it that would work.  I cycled through several that were close (TDC778X for instance) but it does not provide buttons such as LIST.  As you now, without list, you cannot bring up your recorded programs.  I turned my search to the forums for the appropriate bin file, but it appears to not have been created yet.

Does someone have this already created, or can you create it for me.   Any help would be most appreciated since this is my wife's slingbox, and I want to earn some brownie points.

Thanks in advance,

Harry

PACE TDC787X

Provided by Mediacom

Remote is similar to the Time Warner Universal remote (its codes do not work for my box).

A lot of people are having problems with the new iPad app as Sling 'forgot' to add the functionality to access 'other' buttons not on the realistic remote.   I can fix it for you but you will have to revert to the generic remote and decide what functions you want on each button.   Here is my first attempt and apart from the obvious buttons the following mapping has been used:

Skip+/- buttons:    Mapped to Next/Previous Track.

Colour Buttons:   Red-A, Green-B, Yellow-C, Blue-D, White-List (for you).  Mapping might be wrong?

Page+/- Buttons:  Mapped to Day+/-

Functions available but not mapped:  Favourite, Live, VOD, Advance, Replay

Buttons not used:  Enter

Assuming it works, what re-mapping do you need ?

Thank you Allan for your help.   I loaded the file and it worked great.  The directions were off a little for my installation.  Perhaps its because it is a vista64 machine.   Here is a brief recap of the differences in case someone else is reading this and needs a little insite into a similar installation.

1. When I went to extract the zip file, I did not see the program files directory so I extracted the files into my DOWNLOAD directory.  Later when prompted for the "Enter the location of the .BIN file you're uploading" i entered the download  path/filename  (in my case it was C:\Users\Username\Downloads\PACE-TDC787X\V2010_PL.bin).

2.  When stepping through the Setup Assistance>>Configure Video Source>>I had to select the link SUPPORTED DEVICES.  I did not find  STANDALONE DVR PLAYER  so  I selected Misc>>CUSTOM..  This then brought up the screen  asking for  the  "Enter the location of the .BIN file you're uploading".   As mentioned in step 1, I entered the download path/filename where I had extracted the zip file.   Pressed TEST and it loaded successfully. I then tested the white button and it did bring up the LIST.

3. I was unclear as to what the second file V2010_RV.bin was for, so I loaded the V2010_RV.bin the same way I did the first file.  I TESTED and the white button did bring up the LIST.

Lastly, I tried the various buttons and found they worked.  I also found that on the Web interface, you could program the red/green/blue… keys by right clicking and selecting a function to assign to it.  Ironically, I did not see a function for  LIST.

So, this works, and I am grateful for your expert assistance. If you have time to provide a little more info, here are a few curiosity questions,  otherwise consider this done and move on to  your next project.

Q1. Could the Time Warner remote be programmed with correct IR codes for the Pace box?   That would be nice since this remote matches the remote provided by my cable carrier.

Q2. Where do you find a list of the IR codes for the PACE TDC787X box?

OK, quite a lot here.  This was the first time I have used the new set of instructions since I found that you could install using the Webplayer, so I need to go through your comments to see how they could be improved.

 >>>1. When I went to extract the zip file, I did not see the program files directory

OK, I don't understand that comment.   Where in the instructions did you see that you need the 'Program Files'  if you are using the WebPlayer ?

>>>2.  When stepping through the Setup Assistance>>Configure Video Source>>I had to select the link SUPPORTED DEVICES.  I did not find  STANDALONE DVR PLAYER  so  I selected Misc>>CUSTOM.

Again I don't see this.   I am getting the impression you were actually following the instructions for installing using the Standalone SlingPlayer while actually doing it in the Web Player ?

If so, why ?   How can I change the instructions so you wouldn't have done that ?

>>>. I was unclear as to what the second file V2010_RV.bin was for

Again, fully covered in the instructions Sling provide for installing using the Web-based player.   Did you not read those ?

>>> Lastly, I tried the various buttons and found they worked.  I also found that on the Web interface, you could program the red/green/blue… keys by right clicking and selecting a function to assign to it.  Ironically, I did not see a function for  LIST.

Interesting, I didn't know about that.  I will investigate further.

>>>Q1. Could the Time Warner remote be programmed with correct IR codes for the Pace box?   That would be nice since this remote matches the remote provided by my cable carrier.

Yes.  But it needs a lot more work.  I'll start testing

>>>Q2. Where do you find a list of the IR codes for the PACE TDC787X box?

No idea, although I can provide them if you want.  I do it by loading the device onto my Harmony Universal Remote and use that to 'mimic' your remote and learn the codes.

I'll be back when I have another set of BIN files to test.  Meanwhile be grateful for an explanation of what went wrong with the instructions.

Later:   OK, looked at that and you are mistaken.  Using that does NOT reassign the button, it is simply a way of accessing functions that are not on the remote itself.  It does not re-program the button.  And you would not see a 'List' function as that is not a function on the standardised list used by Sling.

It looks as though this is the only realistic remote image that Sling have produced.  And it doesn't appear to have a LIST button ?

You are correct.  I was using the instructions for the "INSTALLING THE REMOTE USING THE STANDALONE SLINGPLAYER" while actually I was on the web interface.  One of those, Ahggg  I can't believe I did that moments.

So, after looking at the link you provided for the "INSTALLING THE REMOTE USING THE WEB-BASED PLAYER" , I did pretty much figure out the install without the instructions.  I would have saved myself some head scratching, but I arrived at the same point.

You indicated you were going to go through the instructions to find ways to enhance them.  To prevent future knuckleheads like me from glossing over the two approaches, you might insert something like:

You can install these files for the remote using the Web-Based Player --OR-- The Standalone SlingPlayer.

USING THE WEB-BASED PLAYER
————————————————
Sling have provided instructions at http://support.slingbox.com/get/KB-1000320.html

<maybe a few extra line spaces >>

USING THE STANDALONE SLINGPLAYER

——————————————————

Maybe that will help, but as we both know, ya can't fix stupid. : )

Again, thanks for the help and staying engaged with this topic.

Lastly, I hope the jpg I sent you of the Universal Time Warner Remote will help.   You sound like you will have to spend some time on building this remote for the Pace unit.   Since this is just a 'wouldn't that be nice' thing, don't hesitate to move on to your next project.  What you have provided so far  is a working solution and is greatly appreciated.   If you want to continue, I'll be glad to assist any way I can.

Thanks…

You have 2 options here:

1.  Find a realistic remote image that Sling have already designed (See http://slingbox.wikia.com/wiki/Skin.toc) and we can tweak the BIN file to fit that.

2.  Design your own.  See http://answers.slingbox.com/thread/8533?tstart=0
