There are times that you need to watch your Slingbox but you either don't want to log into your Sling Account or you may not have access to the Slingbox servers at your location. If you are running the Windows Stand Alone player here is a little trick that you can do with a file and a Thumb drive.
Setup your Slingbox
When you first setup your Slingbox you have to do this on the same LAN or network as your Slingbox is on. You create a Sling Account name and password, you setup your Slingbox's input, remote control, etc. When you do this a file is created on your computer that contains the information needed to connect to your Slingbox. This is your Slingbox profile information.
Where is your profile info?
Your profile information is saved in a file named "SBProfile.xml" When you setup your Slingbox and then close the program down all your profile information is placed in the "SBProfile.xml" in "C:Documents and SettingsAll UsersApplication DataSling MediaSlingPlayer2.0HPQP" folder in Windows XP.
How can I use the profile information to reach my Slingbox remotely?
Now that you know where your profile information is it is easy to make use of it. The way you would do this is copy the above mentioned "SBProfile.xml" to a thumb drive.
Then on the computer you want are going to use to watch remotely you would again install the Slingplayer 2.0 program. Once installed you need to copy your "SBProfile.xml" from your thumb drive to the "C:Documents and SettingsAll UsersApplication DataSling MediaSlingPlayer2.0" folder.
Note that we did not say the "HPQP" folder but the "2.0" folder.
Restart your Slingplayer program.
After you have copied it over restart your Slingplayer program and you will now be shown a list of all your Slingboxes. At this point you are all set to go. Just select your Slingbox and you can view it without logging in.
This is also a very easy way to let someone else watch your Slingbox without having to go through logging in or sharing your Sling Account information.
The only caveat with doing this is that if you ever actually log into your Sling account all the information in the profile will be deleted. If you are worried about that then simply changing the properties of the "SBProfile.xml" to "Read Only" will stop that from accidentally happening.
Give this a try if you run into a circumstance that requires it. If you have any questions on do this don't hesitate to ask!

I just replied to your PM on that topic. Do you have your older XML file with your Slingbox ID in it?

I am setting up a used Slingbox HD that I bought of Craigslist. The problem is that it will be on my brother's network and he lives hours away. Can I use this method to have him setup the Slingbox with his laptop and then send me this folder through Dropbox without ever actually having my laptop connected to his network? Any other suggestions are appreciated.
