One day my slingbox pro hd stopped working. I noticed both the light on the switch/router (the network voltage light) and the network on the slingbox no longer are on. I tried different cables with no luck.
I measured the voltage coming out of the power supply, it's 5.2VDC. However, when I measure on the power plug terminals on the board, it's 3.1VDC. My friend told me there is a "soft short" somewhere, but he has no idea how or where to find it.
Anyone experience this problem or have any ideas?
Thanks!

You could have a week power supply. It could put out 5 volts but under a load it drops. If you have another to test with, even if a bit lower in amperage, you might want to give it a quick try and see what happens.

I looked around but couldn't find another 5V PS. However, I took a look at the caps on the mainboard and noticed all 3 are slightly bulging, as well as 2 on the power supplies (the smaller C750 ones, not the C815 ones). However, they are not excessively bulging and no fluid or burn marks exist.
Is it a safe bet to replace the caps & power supply?
Thanks!

I have never had a bad cap on a Pro HD and one of mine is one of the first ones built. I have replaced the power supply 3-4 times though. Others have said they have bad caps on their Pro HD so I might just be one of the lucky ones.
If you are thinking about replacing the power supply and the caps I would start with the power supply first just becasue if it works then you don't have to mess with the main board on your Pro HD right now.![]()

What's the recommended replacement? I'd rather not buy another sling one.
I've found this, but am worried 2A might not be enough juice:
http://www.amazon.com/Premium-External-Adapter-2-5-inch-Enclosure…..wer+supply

Some have said 2 amp ones work but I would be a little wary.
I did stumble across this 3 amp one for less than $2.50… D-Link Power Supply AC Adapter 5V 3A
For that price you could buy them both.
Most 4 amp ones I have seen run about the same $20.00 as Sling's does.

My friend had a 5V/3A power supply and it seems to be working with that. Ended up swapping the caps anyway, as I don't want to be shipping the slingbox back and forth.
Thanks for the help!

Hi,
thanks for this post! It also prevented me from throwing my Slingbox Pro away. You indeed need at least 1,5A with 5V (my adapter broke from one hour to the other), probably even more. I found a D-Link Router adapter with 3A and 5V and it worked. My other 800ma 5V adapter did not work. The network light never went on and reset did not work neither.
Thanks
