No connection mainly. With the regular ac adapter i only get one light, nothing else, even when trying to reset, the network light is off as well as on my router (wrt54G, current stock firmware). I have a more powerful ac adapter don't recall the voltage/mA but with that I will get the unit to boot up and and briefly get it to connect, but i can't seem to configure it. Also the board gets warm so i pull the power so i don't fry it.
I very closely looked at the capacitors and i don't see any that are bulging, makes me wonder if i have a different problem. I was so confident i bought 2 caps before i even opened the unit up. I will wait until i get the new ac adpater and see if that helps. if it doesn't i suspect i will replace all the caps, heck at 1.29 each what's the big deal. Plus my kids will think i'm a guru when they see me soldering :) If they only could see the crap i throw out because I completely break it.

Have you checked if there's a firmware update on the Linksys support website. I know they had several updates in earlier versions of the WRT routers due to problems with DHCP. Pretty much the same problems that were carried over for the OpenWRT, DD-WRT, FreeWRT, and Tomato.
That would be my advice to check while you wait for the AC adapter to come in.

Yeah i check somewhat regularly. I checked a couple months ago when i was having connection issues, ended up being a bad coax cable in my attic, at that point the firmware i had for the WRT54G (V3.0) was the latest. Running v 4.21.1 from 07 which still looks to be current. Thinking about switching to Wireless N just haven't pulled the trigger yet. Any recomendations on a good router? I'm running a linksys NSLU2 NAS along with 3 laptops, two Tvio HD's plus a ps3 and a Wii, etc.

For quite a while, I have been unable to use the slingbox solo (~2.5 years old and definitely out of warranty) for more than 5 minutes without it de-authenticating. I opened up my slingbox, but the (Sanyo 16V 470uF) capacitors appeared normal. Desperate for a solution, I decided to replace the capacitors anyway. I went to Radio Shack and picked up two of the (only) 470uF 35V capacitors in the store for a mere $1.29 each, and replaced the two 470uF capacitors on the slingbox solo. My slingbox now works like it did when it was brand new!
Thanks to everyone here for the helpful tips

Good deal. Glad you got it working.
I wonder what Radio Shack is thinking about why all of the sudden they have a run on the 470uF 35V capacitors. :)

I got the new power adapter in and it didn't make a difference. I replaced two of the 7 capacitors (I have the Pro, red slingbox) with no luck. Going to try and find 5 more caps and replace all of them. The 272-1030's from Radioskack are considerably larger but they fit in the case fine.

We have seen issues with the Pro box that changing from 100Mbs to 10Mbs fixes the problem. If you still have an issue with the Pro after replacing all the capacitors then let us know. The speed issue/hack may fix you problem.

Replaced all the capacitors with no luck. When i plug in the new adaptor all it get is the first light. and I can see on my router the ethernet port that is plugged into the pro has a steady slow blink. My local network shows not ip adrress given out. Now if I take a more powerful adapter (9v 2A) I will get the three lights on the front of the pro to boot up and alternate and I'll get the network light for a short while but then it goes out, and i have no connectivity. I unplug the network cable and the 3 lights on front of the pro flash again. Not sure what my options are right now, but I'm figuring that this box is paperweight.
Even if I get another more powerful adapter i wod never feel comfortable leaving it on when I'm away from home, it seems to get warm but Im not sure if that's normal or not.
Thanks for everyones help, it was worth the $10 in caps to see if i could get it to work.

I replaced my caps some time ago, it cost me 60 bucks by a tv repairman. He did a great job! Paid too much, but it is what it is, I'm happy! I've been saying the same thing to all and have posted this on the Sling forum, the company does not want to admit the problem. Just tell us those of us that do not have a warranty anymore. Quit trying to make money by keeping us on the phone and trying to tech support it. It is a common problem and should be the first thing to be discovered. Good luck.

I also experienced this problem after having used the Slingbox Solo for about 18 months. Device would work for less than 5 seconds before quitting. After reading several posts on the subject, I dissasembled the unit and noted that the two 470 uf capacitors looked defective. One was leaking, the other had a slight bulge on top. I replaced them with capacitors from Radio Shack for about $2.70. The Solo has worked without a problem for the last 24 hours. Best way to remove the old capacitors is to use solder wick on the terminals unless you have a desoldering machine handy. Holes can be reamed out with a small drill (.040). Thanks to eveyone who figured this out.

Thanks for the insight. I've had my solo for 8 months. It worked well the first 3 months or so and just got worse and worse as time went on. I went on to the Sling Box Solo forum and found that I wasn't the only person with the problem, there's hundreds of us out there. I saw someone posted a link to this site, and I'm so happy they did. I had a bulging capacitor. I replaced it for $1.39 and my Solo is working the best it ever has, I've been streaming as high as 5000 kbps. It's awesome. Thanks so much.

Sling has hardware warranty of 12 months you should have asked them to replace your defective box.

After jumping through a million hoops I finally got Sling to send a new solo to replace my under warranty model, only to receive another capacitor plagued unit. Got tired of dealing with them, replaced the 470 uf's myself, and all has been humming well now for a month. Jess did right, by my experiences.
