Almost every device, TV , DVR, Satellite, PVR and DVD Player seem to use a different remote code to control them. There are hundreds of different remote files. Most companies provide the needed codes included in their software but there are times when you find that yours is not one of them.
If that is the case you can usually add the needed code manually. For instance with the SlingBox they give you an easy way to do this. Read more on how to add custom codes here and here.
But where do you get binary code file you need? The first place to start is to see if there is a code already created that you can use.
We have created some lists and files that can help. If you have a device made for the U.S. you can download this text file.
You will need to be registered and logged in to download because we have to avoid Bots or spammers taking bandwidth away from regular users. Don’t worry we will never spam you or share any private info.
Open up the file and do a search for the device you wish to control.
If your device in not made for U.S. device then try this text file that contains device code numbers for other countries.
Again read through and search this text file for the device you wish to control. You will see something for example UltimateTV, Code:S1640″ that mean the code number you want is S1640. If there are several listed on the same line as your device that means there are a couple different ones and you will have to try them all to determine which one works for you.
After you have found your devices code download this Zip file containing over 500 different binary codes.
Unzip the file and find the code you need that you found in the text files. If you see 2 of the same codes for instance one with PL and the other with RV or JU and are not sure wich one your device uses you can usually put both were needed and when you upload to your program it will pick the one that is correct for it.
If you can’t find a code for your particular device don’t give up! You may not find the one you need if it is a newer product because they do take a little time to come out with them. One thing you can do is head over to the JP-1 remote site and do a search there.
If you still can’t find a code you can try to create one your self using the information here or jump into our forums and see if there is any information on your device and if not you can post a request for a code or where yo might find one. The forums are here.
