If you have a U.S. built Slingbox but live in the U.K. and other non U.S places and you have it connected to a Sky, Sky+ or Sky+HD box there is not a remote setup available for you.

If you do try to set up a Sky system the only options or boxes that it will allow you to conntect to and control are the Sky Tata box.

So what people have done is use Alan Richey’s custom-made remote binary PL BIN file to allow UK Sky customers to use a US Slingbox.

If you have not seen it yet or need it you can get it here.
Sky Remote.zip

If you are not aware of how a custom remote BIN file works take at How To Create Custom Remote Control Files for SlingPlayer.

But the basics are this.

Download a remote BIN file.
P
ut the file into your C:Program FilesSling MediaSlingplayerSBAV folder or if you run a Mac put it here /Applications/SlingPlayer/Contents/Slingbox Setup Assistant/Contents/Resources/SBAV/.
Now go into SlingPlayer and run Setup Assistant and ‘Configure Video Sources’, using Satellite Receiver as the device type.
This time use ‘Other’ as the brand and in the next screen use scroll to the bottom of the Code numbers, select ‘Custom’ and then type S2010 (NOT s2010, the code is case-sensitive) in the newly appeared Custom Code window.

Then complete the setup as normal.

That will make it so you can now control your Sky, Sky + box. But you will see that you do not get the pretty Sky + remote you get the basic looking remote.

What if you don’t like the Basic Remote look?

If you are using the Windows Stand Alone Player here is who you can use a custom remote skinhatt looks like the Sky remote,  here is how.

Download the Sky + S1175 remote Bin file here.

This file is exactly the same file as the S2010_PL file shown above with only the setup code or name changed to S1175. All the settings and functions are the same as the S2010_PL code.

Do the same with the BIN file as shown above. Put it into your SBAV folder.

Then run your SlingBox SlingPlayer setup program. Change the settings to say you are in the U.K.

Click on “Setup Your Slingbox” and then select “United Kingdom”. Then click on “Apply”

You will see this error message.

Just click on Continue.

Now go to “Configure Video Sources”. Select Satellite Receiver.

Click on “Next”

Select ‘SkyPerfect TV” and “Other”.

Click “Next”

Select “Custom” and type in S1175.

Then test the remote using the “Power” button and click on “Next” It should take a few seconds but it should download a new remote skin file for you to use. If all goes fine you should see this.

Then just click on “Next”, “Apply” and “Close”

You should be good to go. Run your SlingPlayer for Windows program and check out your cool new remote.

The reason this works is because the SlingPlayer program know that the S1175 code is the one Sling Media has designated as the Sky Remote. When you use that code number the SlingPlayer for Windows program automatically downloads the proper remote for that code. Cool huh?

If you try this using the Mac player software and it works for you we would love to hear about it.

The trick is knowing what code number the SlingPlayer for Windows program is looking for that is associated to their custom remote skins.  I am sure there are other custom skins that can be used. If you are looking for a particular one let us know.

I am located in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and got a Slingbox Pro-HD. When trying to set-up the remote control for my SKY HDTV (Pace equipment, but no model specified), I exhausted all the options showed for the Pace equipment with no success. I tried to follow the guidance presented for UK, but no success. Therefore, I really would appreciate any hints on how to solve this problem of remote control code for SKY HDTV. Needless to say that, I am also open to discuss any cost related to a proper solution. Many thanks, Paulo

BTW, I was also guided to read the thread and follow the included steps: http://answers.slingbox.com/thread/3300?tstart=0 . . . but again, no success!

Assuming you have tried all the Sky and Pace codes without success and you have tried all the appropriate Sky and Pace Custom Remotes and done all the tests recommended in that thread, then you will need a new Custom Remote.  But without a Model Number we cannot do anything.   Is there nothing in the manual or on a plate on the box itself ?

Hi, the links to the files seem to be broken..??

  5.

What links to what files ??

  6.

    Hi
There is no link to downoad to the sky + bin remote ??

  7.

    Thank u for that Alan.
Please tell me is there a way of getting the ipad fooled into showing another skin with my bin code…..the bin i have is for the uec dsd1131, and is C2010_PL, wich works perfect except i am not mad on the default custom skin, as there is no volume buttons…please any suggestions would be great.

    Thanks

Yes, if you can tell me a remote you can select which gives you the correct image, even if it doesn’t work.  Then I can link the BIN file to that image.

And the reason they don’t bother with Volume controls is that they aren’t used.  If they are present then Slingplayer uses them to control it’s own volume, they never send them to the device.

Does the S1175 remote Bin file from post #1 not work or not give you the correct remote skin?

  10.

Thank you Alan, that would be great smile

First choice would be to have the custom remote display the word ”Volume” instead of “Page”, but not sure if that can be done…..The other remote that i like is the: Satellite Remote, Manufacturer: Viasat,  Model: Pace850NV.

    Greatly Appreciated

    Thank you

OK, I’ll give it a try, although I cannot change the image, that is designed by Sling.  But I am a bit confused, as this thread is supposed to be about the Sky Remote and the S175 BIN file.   Now you are talking about a UEC box and a Pace image ?

Am I missing something or have you (naughtilysmile) hi-jacked this thread.   If so please start a new thread with a proper descriptive subject line and leave this one alone.

  12.

More confusion.   According to my records that remote you are uisng has never been proven, so I never issued it.  Where did you find it ?   I assume it does work ??

And if I select Satellite > Viasat I don’t get the Pace box as an option.  And that is on a UK box and a USA box.

  13.

Sorry about thatsurprised..i have just started a new thread.

    Thank you

Without a Model number we are a bit stuck.   Are you sure there isn’t one on a label somewhere on the box ?

Who is the TV provider ?  Have you tried using that as the manufacturer ?
